Our Story
Answering God's Call
God called us to Costa Rica on February 24th 2021 after multiple confirmations given to both me and my wife. We did not know what our mission would be. He simply told us to go and that He would direct our path. We sold most everything that we had and only took a small loading container of our absolute necessities to move to a foreign country that we’ve never visited to do the Lord’s work. It took some serious obedience, faith, and strength to answer the call!!
We began praying for a date of when we should go, when we should sell our current home, if we should take vehicles and all the logistics that go with trying to move out of a country you’ve called home for many decades. While we were thinking that the end of 2021 sounded reasonable or even 2022, the Lord had a different plan and confirmed the date that May 4th 2021 would be our departure.
We prayed that our kids would handle the news well and He not only made their hearts content to go, but He gave them a passion and desire to go! That said, Janelle and I had our days of doubt, hesitation, anxiety, fear, etc. We had to fight against the wiles of the devil many days and fought to be obedient to do what the Lord told us to do and the date He had set.
When I tell you it wasn’t easy, it wasn’t and ever since we have been here we have seen both the Lord’s provision and the devil’s attempts to try to pull us down. But the Lord continually fights our battles when we resist the devil, trust, believe and have faith that our MOST HIGH GOD will continue to finish what He has started in us!!!
The Lord called us to Arenal Costa Rica, but he sent us to Playa Hermosa first. Hermosa beach is a small beach town full of locals and is poverty-stricken. We met a couple from West Virginia
who were called to Costa Rica nearly the same day we were. Together we formed a ministry on the beach where God called me to preach. We were able to share the gospel and baptize in the ocean. After this season of preaching, the Lord sent us to Arenal, Costa Rica which is where He told us we would end up before moving here.
After being in Arenal for nearly a year, God spoke to me clearly about a new ministry He wanted us to begin. Janelle and I were driving home from the grocery store and were discussing the cost of food. The Lord immediately spoke to me and told me to open a food pantry in Arenal. I began praying about it and the Lord gave me a vision. In the vision, I was sitting next to Him on a cloud and he handed me a loaf of bread. He told me to feed them and to also feed them His Word. This is how Bread of Life, Life Pantry based on John 6:35 was born. (Also known as Despensa de Vida here in Costa Rica).
